Complex searches

I'm new to Calibre. I imported my Kindle books with the intention of using Calibre as a way to add metadata and use the metadata for organization and searching. For example I read a lot of mysteries, especially ones that are a series like Harry Bosch. I want to keep track of which books I've read so that I can select the next book in the series to read.

I take advantage of the $2 books that are featured in a daily email from Amazon and another service called BookBub. I'll buy a couple of books a week. I want to use Calibre tags to be able to search for new books to read, many of which I don't remember buying.

I added a yes/no column to the search results panel called "Read" and have checked each book in my library with this flag. So that makes it easy to do a search for "Harry Bosch", sort in series order, and I see which book to read next. Great!

I also added a pair of tags called "Read" and "Unread" thinking that I could do a search for like this: books with tags "History", "WWII", and "Unread" to create a list of World War II history books that I haven't read yet. This doesn't seem possible because the search function can't specify "and". It only uses "or".

What can I do?
