I am running MacOS Sierra (10.12.5) and I have upgraded my local installation to Calibre version 3. I noticed that pressing the 'V' key stopped working and does not launch the book viewer any longer. I tried (1) resetting all shortcuts in preferences and (2) manually assigning 'V' to the action and neither solved the issue.
When running Calibre in debug mode, this is what gets logged when I press 'V':
