Only a few individuals have translated all the tragedies of the Greek poets (Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides) into English. One of them (and also the first) was Robert Potter (1721 1804).
Potter's translations (in verses) enjoyed considerable popularity in the late 18th century, with reprints of his translations continuing into the 19th century. His translation of Euripides even reached a reprint in the 20th century.

After Potter, only Arthur Way (1847 1930) did the job in verses. Theodore Alois Buckley (1825 1856) and George Theodoridis (this time) did the job in prose. The translations from George Theodoridis (Bacchicstage) are free to read online for everyone.
