PW3 No search bar (stuck in demo)

I can’t get my Kindle Paperwhite 3 out of demo mode. The computer doesn’t detect the device even though I’m using a good cable.

When I do the gesture that should bring me past the “configure device” screen, there’s no magnifying glass icon to type the ;exit_demo command. Sometimes the icon does appear, but I can’t click it.

Resetting with the power button doesn’t help, and fully draining the battery didn’t change anything either.

I’m out of ideas at this point, does anyone know what else I could try? (Soft 5.16.2.1.1)
