Touch Sideload firmware

After resetting my old Kobo Touch N905C, I attempted to update the firmware. Downloaded the appropriate firmware and, after unzipping the firmware in the .kobo folder, it froze the Kobo. I couldn’t even bring it back to its factory setting. I had to install an image just to get it back to its original setting, with firmware dated 2012.

Did I miss a step? Are there any tips and tricks that I could apply to update the firmware?
