I saw that after removing your device from your account and performing hard reset all the devices should perform as add-free. It is recommended to use new account during the config process and go offline asap.
I do wonder if I could still use WiFi while running Koreader? My idea was to use SSH functionality. Or would I have to disable some services before trying?
