I've been using Calibre for many years now. I think I came aboard back when Version 3 was released. I've always just used the plugins that were available, but now I may need to learn how to write one of my own.
I just started using BookFusion through it's Calibre plugin in order to share my books with my neices and nephews in a family library. I have thousands of books in my library and now that I'm sharing I need to use a consistent standard of documentation for my bookshelves, tags and other metadata.
For my bookshelves I'm using the BISAC Subject Heading List which puts everything into logical and understandable categories. For my tags and a few other pieces of metadata that I want to make consistent I have a memebership with ISBNdb with an API key. Unfortunately, there is no longer a plugin for ISBNdb to streamline this process. I'm not a coder, but if I need to I guess I'll have to learn a new skill in my retirement to make my own plugin.
If there is anyone out there who happens to have a current plugin for ISBNdb, please let me know. In the meantime I'll start teaching myself how to write a plugin using the Calibre User Manual. I'm sure you'll be hearing from me when I start asking questions and asking for advice. I'm looking forward to meeting ya'll in the near or distant future.
