Firmware 5.2.190625 (Tolino)

Recently Kobo released yet another update for firmware 5.xx, currently only used by the latest Tolino devices.

DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL THIS FIRMWARE ON YOUR KOBO!

The german news blog "Papierlos-Lesen.de" noticed some more changes, that are not (directly) mentioned in the official changelog:

• Side-loaded fonts were (partially) fixed. They no longer appear "bold" suddenly after reopening a book.
• The font "Bitter" has been fixed.
• Huge EPUB-files (> 300 MB) now open without issue.
• The slider for text margins has been improved.
• Blurbs for side-loaded books are displayed now.

The blog also lists a few bugs, that have NOT been fixed yet:

• Embedded fonts are only displayed, when they are placed in the "fonts" folder.
• The slider for the font size still behaves weird. It needs to be adjusted far towards the middle to see any significant change in font size.
• Hyphenation still only works when it is directly embedded into the book.
• The Tolino store(s) are still only a website link and not directly implemented into the firmware like the Kobo store. This means an extra log-in when you visit the shop and some functions like watchlists are not available.
• The menu for uploading side-loaded books into the cloud has not been translated from english.

In the comments under the article users report of more issues, that have not been fixed yet:

• The reader sometimes seems to "forget" certain settings when loading a new chapter inside a book and just reverts back to the default setting. Users have noticed this with side-loaded fonts and the dark mode. To solve this issue you have to exit the book and reopen it.
• The public library function is still a mess. The wbsite is not adjusted for Tolino / Kobo devices and users report having trouble to find or log-in to their public library.
• There are still no additional backgrounds for the notepad, only a blank background.
