Kovid has agreed to publish "beta" versions of calibre on Fridays when there isn't an official release. Today's beta is there, at https://download.calibre-ebook.com/betas/

- Making the betas isn't completely automatic so he might forget or feel the changes since the last release/beta don't justify the time. For example, changes to news sources are automatically downloaded so don't require a release.
- The version number won't change from whatever the previous release has. Other than your memory, there isn't any way to know you are running a beta.
- If you are concerned about overwriting your calibre install, the portable version is in the beta folder.
- There isn't a change log. See the calibre commits on github to see what is in the beta. Betas are cumulative; they contain all the logged changes since the previous release (visible in the log).
- These betas contain changes that will be in the next release. The changes aren't considered risky or they wouldn't be queued for release.
- There shouldn't be any problem with reinstalling the previous version. If you are concerned then use the portable version.
- If you report problems then it is very important that you tell us you are running the beta.
