Auto change custom column value on download

I have my calibre library set to be accessible from the internet, i download my ebooks on epub from my phone and read them there or send them to myself via email.

I have a custom column with a boolean set to true if read and false if unread

Is there any way to automatically change the "read" column from false to true when dowloaded from web/sent via email?

I know a little of coding mainly in C# and java but making a custom plugin seems a bit over my current capabilities

Any help is appreciated
