Purchased Kobo Libra 2 (firmware / battery question)

Hello,

I ordered a Libra2 through the Kobo site, and just received it. The battery was completely dead. After charging it, it looks like the last firmware update was on 7/2022. My question is if the device sat on a shelf for a year without a charge, does it degrade the battery life -vs- receiving one that had charge on it with a more recent firmware date?

Also, I received the Sleep cover from Kobo, and the leather on it looks stained/blotchy? Is this normal?
