Using KoboRoot.tgz to get rid of dot files...reinstall KR and P?

I know that to get rid of the image files after installing Koreader+Plato, you have to put KoboRoot.tgz into the .kobo folder.

But do you then have to reinstall Koreader+Plato?

I have it in my own instructions to do so, but I just tried starting them without doing that and all seems fine.
