Idly curious: Is there a correct way to pronounce "Calibre"?
Until recently, I hadn't given it much thought. I've always said "CA-lih-ber," as in the dictionary definition meaning "ability or distinction." (US spelling: "caliber").
But a few days ago I heard a Calibre user say "kuh-LEE-bruh," and when I asked her about that, she said that "libre" was likely a riff on the French or Spanish word for "free," with a secondary etymology meaning "book."
How do you guys say it?
How does Calibre Dad™ Kovid say it?
