Kobo Aura is now mounting as a FAT share on macOS Big Sur and Calibre doesn't work

Hi all,

My father has complained to me that his Kobo Aura doesn't work with Calibre anymore. I've noticed that macOS now mounts his Aura as a FAT share on his computer and doesn't use MTP anymore. As a result, Calibre doesn't see it. A workaround I found for him was to use the "Save" functionality but that's not as convenient and intuitive as "send to device".

Does anyone know why this has happened? Anything we can do? Can calibre support this new mounting system?

Kobo version is: 4.30.18838
