Rooting the Nova 3 Color: is it locked?

Hi all,

I recently purchased a Nova 3 Color from onyxboox.com. I noticed that there are actually two storefronts to Onyx Boox and that, perhaps I made the wrong choice of the two options.

I'm trying to root my device now, following steps at https://blog.tho.ms/hacks/2021/03/27...-note-air.html which roughly align to the Max 3 Rooted thread (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=323254), modulo TWRP.

It appears to me that my device is locked. `fastboot flashing get_unlock_ability` returns:

(bootloader) get_unlock_ability: 0

Has anyone else noticed this? Using fastboot to run any unlocking / flashing / booting results in an uninterruptible hang, which I can't seem to debug from the usual googling. Is this, perhaps, one of the modifications from the onyxboox.com retailer?
