Hi--this question isn't for Kovid so much, as I've already submitted a bug report--but I marked it private because I don't want to share the files publicly. Still, I was curious if anyone else has experienced this--and maybe if there's a simple workaround.
I have a Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 (3d generation) running Fire OS 4.5.5. I run Calibre 2.5.1 on Windows 7 64bit.
Ever since the latest OS (I think I can track the problem to that), I've had trouble converting EPUB files to MOBI so my books would show up in Kindle's books list instead of the docs list. I went into preferences/change calibre's behavior/output options/mobi output and deleted the personal doc tag for the EPUB to MOBI conversions and then converted them to MOBI. However, when I sent the files to my device, they still appeared only as DOCS.
I then tried converting the files using Hamster E-book converter--I tried a few different paths. First from EPUB to MOBI, and also from MOBI (converted via Calibre) to EPUB and then MOBI--and every MOBI file I sent to the Kindle which had been converted with E-Hamster showed up as a book! So there's something that Calibre's not doing that E-Hamster is. I'm wondering if maybe there's just some...I don't know, a flag or something that's not getting switched which I might be able to work around.
I like Calibre a lot and I don't want to give up on it. So I'd appreciate any help.
