* * *
While returning to the city at summers end, young Frank gives his lucky piece as payment to a girl selling berries by the roadside. Years pass, and a story unfolds involving two young women and two young men. A taste of adventure, a bit of romance, a touch of mystery, a soupçon of melodrama there are many flavors to be found in this novel of the early 1900s. Theres even a pinch of mycology (thats the study of mushrooms, to you and me).

Not altogether unpredictable, but a fast, fairly enjoyable read.
