The first novel Maurice Maindron (1857-1911) wrote takes place in the troubled last decades of 16th century France prior to the crowning of Henry de Navarre who became king of France as Henry the 4th and finally put an end to half a century of religious unrest.
The novel received the Prix Maillé-Latour-Landry from the Académie Française (1896).
