The Cross: An Eddie Flynn Novella by UK author Steve Cavanagh (SYKM) is a tie-in short to his Eddie Flynn series of legal thrillers starring the eponymous New York-based former con artist turned lawyer, this case pitting him up against a corrupt cop and having a moral dilemma over whether to present evidence that will seriously endanger his vulnerable client, free courtesy of publisher Hachette's Orion imprint.
This is being offered free to promote the newly-released paperback edition of his 1st-in-series debut novel, as well for readers to try before the 2nd-in-series comes out in March. If you happen to like this one and are curious about the series, the author has already answered quite a few questions about the character and the influences on the novels in a Q&A on his website here (answers are click-to-expand so you can avoid spoilers), and invites more such queries from Gentle Readers.
Currently free @ B&N UK, Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK, Kobo & iTunes (different product number for the UK) & Google Play (all available to Canadians). This doesn't seem to exist in the US, as the author appears to have a different publisher there who will be releasing his debut later this year, but it was also free when I spot-checked assorted stores in the EU, South America, and Japan using the UK product numbers.
And this has been the selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.
Because I like and wish to encourage this way of promoting new authors and their new series: with a nice introductory tie-in short of reasonable substance so you can see how they handle the characters and the plot in full and decide if you like the way they tell a story, and not the usual "handful of sample chapters offered as a separate ebook" stuff.
And the author takes the time to interact with his readers and answer their questions about his stories, which is always a nice touch, so bonus points, and I hope he benefits from the publicity boost of the freebie. :2thumbsup
