Tanglewood Tales was first published in 1853; the Sterrett edition in 1921. This ebook is in the public domain in countries where the copyright term is Life+80 or less, and in the USA.
Tanglewood Tales, the sequel to A Wonder Book for Girls and Boys, is a re-writing of six well-known Greek myths in a volume for children. Although Hawthorne informs us in the introduction that these stories were also told by Cousin Eustace, the frame stories of A Wonder Book have been abandoned. The delightful humorous touch, however, has not been forsaken.
An Art Deco flavor can be found in the line drawings and ten beautiful full-page color illustrations by Virginia Sterrett.

Nathaniel Hawthorne (né Hathorne; July 4, 1804 May 19, 1864) was an American novelist, biographer, and short story writer. His fiction works are considered part of the Romantic movement and, more specifically, dark romanticism. Many of his works feature moral metaphors with an anti-Puritan inspiration, centering on the inherent evil and sin of humanity. Hawthornes best-known works include The Scarlet Letter and The House of the Seven Gables.
