Based on the script Louis Joseph Vance wrote for Columbia pictures in 1919, and filmed as "The Lone Wolf's Daughter". Vance later rewrote his script into novel form and it was published in 1921.
It opens with a lengthy flashback to the Lone Wolf's younger days, and his encounters with a rival criminal and an aristocratic "adventuress", and then leaps to the present day (ie 1921) to the second encounter with the arch-rival, and his first encounter with the daughter of the Lone Wolf's liaison with the "adventuress".
What is at stake is the British Empire itself.
