There are 7 books in the "Clubfoot" series of secret agent action novels, featuring Dr Grundt, an agent of the German government as the "baddie". The first appeared in 1918 with Dr Grundt an agent of the German Kaiser around the outbreak of WW1, and concluding in 1944 with Dr Grundt an agent of the Nazis. The titles are:

It is now the mid-1930s, and a number of people who have been damaged by Dr Grundt, aka Clubfoot, in years past, are hunting him. The group includes disgraced Jimmy Fane, whose sister, heiress and ace pilot, is looking for Clubfoot as well.

Clubfoot is, seemingly, persona non grata with Germany's Nazi government, as he was a loyal servant of the Kaiser in the First World War. He is lurking in obscurity, conducting private enterprises.
