Here was a baby of eighteen months with a personality writ large across the dimpling, chubby cheeks and the pale-blue eyes. Pale blue they were then, chips of chinaold Nankin. Nineteen years changed them to gray, and the red of her hair tarnished copper. It requires nineteen years to do these things effectually. But the personality was there then; that did not change.
