Mary Ann (or Marian) Evans (1819-1880) was an editor, translator, poet, essayist, short story writer, and novelist who wrote under the name of George Eliot for all but one of her books.

Felix Holt, the Radical was her seventh novel, and was published in 1866, between Brother Jacob and Middlemarch. It is a long complex novel dealing with the romance between the two central characters in the time and setting of the First Reform Act, and partial suffrage, class distinctions, electioneering and political change, and past adultery.

The text was taken from ebooks.adelaide.edu.au, and checked against the three volume 1866 edition by William Blackwood and Sons on the Internet Archive.
