Custom Metadata syntax for Genre/subGenre

I'm creating a Genre structure of the form : Science Fiction.Arthur C Clarke
where I've explicitly entered the author name.

Is it possible to specify a keyword for the author name? For example, using my made-up syntax : Science Fiction.{author}

I've not noticed any documentation about this or a different approach to make the Custom metadata more generalised.

Any help appreciated.
