Women Writers And Sex In Books

Why is it that women feel the absolute need to include graphic sex in their books? I just read the Sarah Hawke books and they had very graphic sex in all of them. Sure, she said that in the beginning and I was well aware of it, but the world she created was wonderful. Filled with unique characters and situations. I really enjoyed all of the books that I read by her, and I usually read three or so books a day, so I have a lot to compare them to. My point is, she didn’t need the sex. The books would have been wonderful without it. Men don’t do that. There is no sex in Lee Child, John Sandford, Brian Haig, Rex Stout, Patrick Lee, David Baldacci, Thomas Perry, Elmore Leonard, sure in Stuart Woods, but his books are just popcorn, not really a meal. Why is it that women think they have to include sex in order to sell their books? I just don’t understand, is this a women thing that men just don’t have a clue about? For the longest time I wouldn’t read anything written by a woman. There were exceptions, Pearl Buck, Daphane Du Maurier. But really, until I saw an eBook called A Mermaid Named Fred by MaryJanice Davidson, I really didn’t read women writers. What a waste. I didn’t want the hero stopping every chapter to make love to somebody. Keep it off stage please. When I read Porno, I don’t want the participants to stop and say, Oh, I have to go find this lost dog now, and find the missing artifact. Women writers are really really good. I am not even going to talk about Janice Evanovich. She is a goddess. But Sue Grafton and Agatha. And others. But the new crop of ladies that are finding their voices and being heard are amazing. But the best of them don’t include graphic sex in their books, because they don’t need it. Can you imagine Kinsey stopping to have graphic sex in the middle of one of her cases? Stephanie of course is another story. But she makes it funny, not dirty. One of her books had a line that literally made me laugh so hard I fell out of my chair. She was at the door and kissing one of her two men goodnight. The line went: His Kiss Went All The Way To My Doodad. Jesus. I just rolled on the floor laughing my ass off. She didn’t need Come On Big Stud, Ram Me Harder to get her point across. I have recently, after being turned on to Jim Butcher, discovered Urban Fantasy. I like it a lot. Lots of women writers with wonderful ideas and worlds that just make you wonder at all the new cool stuff that is coming and it makes you glad you’re a reader and can wallow in this wonderfulness. My brother once said something I have never forgot. I am sure it is a quote from somebody famous, but here it is. Profanity Is The Effort Of A Feeble Mind To Express Itself Forcibly. Just change Profanity to Pornography and we are good to go. Let’s keep Porno in the Porno books, and don’t mess up a wonderful story with graphic sex.
